Psychotherapist Georgia Lukens is the hub of a wildly improbable, albeit suspenseful murder mystery involving a client, homicide detective Jason Santiago, who has developed a crush on his partner; Ellie MacIntosh, Santiago's crush and another of Georgia's clients; and a third client, shy, timid, possibly delusional Rachel, whose roomie, Lea, is aggressive, attractive, promiscuous, and everything else Rachel isnot. While both Milwaukee detectives are frustrated at the ongoing lack of leads in a slew of mutilation murders that might, or might not, be connected, the possibility of a psychopathic serial maniac becomes increasingly plausible as details slowly surface. Supporting characters include victims, significantly present in spirit, though rendered sightless after their eyes and faces are wildly slashed; they also bear the murderer's signature cross cut into their chests. Definitely a mystery for readers who enjoy gore. Scott, Whitney. 304p. Booklist Online. AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION, c2015.
